Scriptural Study of the word HEAL--Part Three

Before each lesson, I ask everyone to first take a moment to pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you as you study His Word.  He speaks to each of us exactly where we are if we will open our hearts and minds to His voice.  I pray this blesses you and helps you grow in our Lord.

EXODUS 21:18-19

18 “If men have a quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but remains in bed, 19 if he gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go unpunished; he shall only pay for his loss of time, and shall take care of him until he is completely healed.”

Exodus is the story of Moses and how God used him to free the children of Israel.  I have heard various numbers as we try to calculate just how many people there were who left Egypt on that day. Numbers ranging from hundreds, to thousands, to tens of thousands, to a million or more.  For the purpose of my writing, I will say tens of thousands.  I have no reason for choosing this number, it is simply a number I can wrap my head around.  I can actually see this many people if I close my eyes and think of the tens of thousands of people attending Super Bowl games.  I think we can safely assume, God freed a lot of people.  With so many people laws had to be put into place.  Laws for the betterment of society as a whole.  The Scriptural one we are looking at today was no exception.

Take a moment and reread the Scriptures above.  Could we just imagine for a moment how different life would be if we had this same law practiced today?  Instead of going to prison, the person responsible for injuring another individual “shall take care of him until he is completely healed.”  Not just on the road the road to recovery but completely healed.  It would definitely make a person think before hurting someone else wouldn’t it.

Researching this word “healed” caused me a great struggled at first.  Like many of you, I want to see and hear about the miraculous healings of the Old and New Testaments taking place today.  “Lord,” I prayed, “I am at a complete loss here and I desperately need Your Holy Spirit to give me wisdom and understanding.”  A short time later God began to show me just how awesome and wonderful He created us!  He designed parts of our bodies with the ability to heal themselves.

When God heals it is miraculous and usually instantaneous. Sometimes His healing is a process and takes time.  The word healed as it is used here does not deal with miraculous healing but with one of time.  For instance:

Broken bones can grow back together

Our skin grows back together after a cut or scratch

Our liver can rejuvenate

Our brain can fix itself

Cells in our intestines have a fast turnover rate.  They die and quickly get replaced enabling our bodies to cleanse itself.

Lungs, damaged by environmental issues or smoking, can begin to heal once a person stops smoking or leaves the environmental hazard

I think of my husband who suffered a heart attack in February 2016. The doctor told me a part of my husband’s heart went without blood so there was some damage.  Thankfully, he also said because it was not for a long period of time, the damage would probably not be permanent.  Thank God, it was not and as of the last test his heart is back to normal.  I thank God and think it is so amazing how God created mankind with a body that can heal itself over time.

We all have family and friends with illnesses and we are praying for a miraculous healing.  We should never stop praying for this as God still does the miraculous!  We have a lady in our church who can testify God still heals as can all of those who remained in constant vigil for the Lord to do a miracle.  The doctors gave no hope but God moved and healed her.  It did not happen overnight.  It literally took months and every time the doctors said ‘no hope’ the members of this little church just prayed harder.  I was able to meet this wonderful woman of God and hear her testimony when I started attending this church a little more than two years ago.

I do not know where you are in your walk with our Lord.  Perhaps you are praying for a miraculous healing or perhaps you have had one.  Maybe you are healing from a physical or maybe your healing is an emotional or spiritual one.  Maybe it is something else entirely.  Whichever the case, there is one think I know for sure, God is able.  He will not leave you nor will He forsake you.   Jesus said He would send us a comforter, the Holy Spirit.  My prayer today is for the Holy Spirit to comfort you in whatever it is you are going through.  May you lean on Him.

Always loving our Lord,

Lori Robbins
